The reality show “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” is a favorite of many who like the idea of a female version of “CSI”
This show recently became a spin-off of “Law and Order” with a sister show “Law and Order: New York” which focuses on the women police officers in New York City. The show portrays a lot of male brutality which makes the female law enforcement officers, like Amanda Warren, a target.
I watched this show the other night when my daughter-in-law birthday came up. She knew all the characters.
The show centers around Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), research papers writing who had been simply maybe not the nicest person to be around. When she switched to the officer who was unkind, I had been surprised. She was a fanatic from the beginning.
Dr. John E. Reid was once the leader of the team detective that was hired to find the case of the death of a child named Daniel on the train tracks. He was still a loner at the start, until one day he made his first friend, the team’s newest member, Kate Beckett (Katey Sagal).
Together side mentoring role and her support, she also helps direct the people to become. Because she falls in love with him later on, the two eventually turned into a couple. He’s great boyfriend and consistently keeps their romance secret out of the wife, Rachel (Melissa George).
The series follows the workforce while they take to to grab serial-killer Frank Rybak (John Turturro). She is an excellent investigator and shows her emotions during the show but it doesn’t hold back the things she does when doing her job. Their next case involves the case of a serial killer that was committed by a mentally ill stalker, Stacy Hudson (Sarah Michelle Gellar). Olivia gets close to Hudson because she believes that he is her good side. However, as time goes by she realizes that he is actually a psychotic stalker that wants to hurt Hudson and when he is brought to justice she is the only one who can stop him.
The show takes some pretty controversial topics into consideration like jealousy, pity, love, and love lost and a popular psychology. It also looks at issues that the society deals with such as disability, self-esteem, and victimization. Amanda Warren is amazing women. She was my favorite character, although the show did not really take her out of the equation. She was still one of the main players on the show.
If you have not watched the show yet, I highly recommend it. You can catch it on Showtime. But there is so much more that this show is dealing with like abuse and family dynamics.
